7/24/2023 0 Comments John day gps tracksI'd really like to see a comparison between this and an map. That is totally incompatible with effective searching in a forest. This person is walking straight through the forest like they know where they're going. There's no way you see something like that unless you're looking straight at it, or step on it. Let alone something hidden in detritus 10 feet away behind a tree. I've walked straight past a super obvious tree blaze on multiple trips without seeing it. If they're searching inside a forest, this would be a really ineffective search. If you've done it, I'm sure you can appreciate. You'd zig-zag and wander a lot more than that. Imagine yourself searching a line of trees. It might work at a boundary, if it's a clean forest/grass boundary. I don't think a straight path would effectively search even the first few trees deep. 5-10 minutes is unbelievable, making me wonder what your purpose is. I also don't agree that the sample interval looks like 5-10 minutes, because there's plenty of small detail. I don't think tracking pauses account for it, because you'd be moving while wandering. Plus, it's extra strange now that we have been narrowing the search area down to the Madison. Remember, this was posted the day before the find was announced, which was strange. I'm attaching the screenshot of the post that I took at the time. Am I missing something, or am I bad at search? Can you help me find the link? u/andydufresne87 was trying to find this post back in December - before I realized I had the screenshot ( reddit post) - and it's not the same as the GPS coordinates that u/humaniteer mentions in those comments.
